The oldest part of the park (south) was established in the 1860s. The park was expanded in early 20th century in a rustic style. The Marian Hill towers over it (Hotel Maria now stands on top of it). The hill is associated with many legends. One says that it is from here that the wife of Bolko I Świdnicki released an arrow that pointed out the site to erect the town (hence comes the name of Strzelin). Another, even less likely one, talks about Mary – the mother of Jesus staying in Strzelin while fleeing from Herod. Apparently, on a stone located at the hill there is a hoof print of the donkey on which the Holy Family rode, or maybe even the heel of Mary or the foot of the infant Christ.
