The sculpture of an archer

The sculpture of the archer ready to shoot refers to the name of the city, or perhaps it commemorates the heroic archers defending the city against attacks in the Middle Ages. The monument was unveiled in 2000, but its history dates back to 1910, when it was made in a Hamburg workshop at the request of the Muller family, who wished to celebrate the centenary of C.G. Muller company by placing the sculpture in fron of the town hall in Strzelin. However, the authorities did not agree to place it there. The outbreak of World War I made such initiatives redundant and the monument was not unveiled until 1918. It survived World War II, but in the days of PRL it disappeared from the pedestal. It returned to its place in 2000 by the initiative of the Wzgórza Strzelińskie Society.
