An example of the medieval jougs is a metal hoop attached by a shorter or longer chain directly to the pillory or to the walls of the town hall or the church. Neck bracket is assumed to be on the neck of the criminal convicted by the court to be punished publicly. Locked in the jougs the one became the subject of ridicules and abuses. The metal jougs is placed here close to the cemetery entrance gate at St. Catherine’s Church.
